WHAT IS A CLINICAL TRIAL?
Clinical trials are studies which are conducted in order to collect information on how safe and effective new medications and devices are.
There are several stages of research that a medication or device must go through before they can be approved for use by consumers.
The process of creating new medications is an extensive and very expensive one. It involves thousands of people working for several years towards one goal, which is to discover new medications that will ultimately advance therapy and benefit patients.
It is a process that could not happen if it were not for people like YOU, the study volunteer.
Studies begin with extensive laboratory research as well as testing on healthy volunteers. If the initial research is successful, that information is sent to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval to continue research and testing with volunteers who have the disorder being treated.
